Representative Cindy Acree – HD 40

Cindy Acree is a small business owner, currently President of Cindy Acree Enterprises. A widowed mom of three teenagers, her personal story is one of overcoming adversity, struggling with epilepsy for fifteen years and then surviving a paralyzing stroke to make a remarkable recovery, and becoming an author and motivational speaker. She became Chairperson of the Colorado Neurological Institute Board and a founding member of the Spalding Community Foundation Board of Directors.Cindy was elected to the House in 2008 and currently serves as Chair of the Legislative Audit Committee, Vice-Chair of the Health and Environment Committee, member of Finance Committee, Chair of the Legislative Oversight Committee for the Mental Health in the Criminal and Juvenile Justice System, member of Behavioral Health Council and is on the National Council of State Legislatures’ Teen Pregnancy Council. She has also served on numerous boards and committees some of which include Chair of the Aurora City Budget Committee, Cherry Creek School District Facility Planning Committee, and Spalding Hospital Board.

She was also an instructor at the DU Law School. Cindy has received several awards for her accomplishments for overcoming adversity, being an inspiration to others. She has a B.S. from Southern Methodist University and a Masters of Law Administration from the University of Denver College of Law.

Senator Shawn Mitchell – SD 23

Senator Mitchell was elected to the Senate in 2004 after serving three terms in the Colorado House. He currently serves as the ranking Republican on the Health and Human Services Committee and is a member of the Business, Labor and Technology Committee.Shawn is an attorney in a private law practice in Denver and Adams Counties. He served as Special Counsel to the Colorado Attorney General, where he was a legal policy advisor and one of the top aides to former Colorado Attorney General Gale Norton. He also represented Colorado in fighting criminal appeals in the Colorado Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.

He is a former senior fellow at the Independence Institute. He continues to write and speak often on public policy issues. He is past president of the Colorado Chapter of the Federalist Society and has been an adjunct professor in the Public Affairs Program at the University of Colorado, Denver.

He earned his BS degree, magna cum laude, from Brigham Young University and he received his juris doctor from the University of California, Berkeley.

He and his wife Yvette have seven children and Shawn is an avid, experienced rock climber.

Please note that the luncheon fees have been increased due to CRBC’s decision to strive to raise more money for its Small Donor Committee to support Colorado’s House and Senate candidates who are committed to helping the interests of small business. You will be asked to sign a sign-in sheet authorizing CRBC to treat a portion of your luncheon fee as a contriibution to CRBC’s Small Donor Committee, a practice which is used by other organizations also such as the Lincoln Club and Reagan Club.
